Right now I'm building a webpage and maintaining a blog for my university, and I went to a training on how to build an effective site map.
Interesting stats I learned:
* Only 16% of webusers read web pages word for word
* 79% of people scan, just picking out individual words and sentences
* 50% of people do not scroll down
So what does this mean for you and me?
It means that if you want to have a good blog, you need to keep it short, simple and to the point. No obscure titles, no fluff, no emo free writes, unless that is the subject matter of your blog, I suppose.
If you've read my blog you know I need some help in the to-the-point department. I have a tendency toward tangents. So, moving forward I hope you enjoy my attempt at being more mindful of your time and interest, and I hope to have a more user-friendly design/approach to my blog.
No guarantees it will be perfect, but I hope as I learn and develop the website for my school and write for that blogsite, that I can transfer some of those skills into my own personal website and make it better for everyone.
